Eureka and Ferndale boast some of the nation’s most breathtaking Victorian structures, and you can travel back in time even farther by riding the Skunk Train’s vintage locomotives and visiting the Point Arena Lighthouse, which was constructed in 1908.
The North Coast also offers unusual wildlife and cultural attractions. B. Bryan Preserve near Point Arena has been known for its African hoofed-animal conservation activities, while the former Solar Living Center in Hopland was once an interesting demonstration site for renewable energy and sustainable living. However, the Solar Living Center is no longer confirmed as an operating visitor attraction, so travelers should not plan a visit without independently verifying access.

Gold Country
Both the enormous sequoias at Calaveras Big Trees State Park and Sacramento’s stately State Capitol are incredibly impressive. Experience the Gold Rush in Old Sacramento State Historic Park, Columbia State Historic Park, and quaint mining communities like Angels Camp, Murphys, and Nevada City. Amazing picture backgrounds can also be found in the unearthly structures in tunnels like Mercer Cavern and Black Chasm Cavern.

Central Valley
Downtown Fresno’s Mural District features colorful urban artwork, while the Shinzen Friendship Garden offers a peaceful Japanese-style landscape. In spring, the Fresno County Blossom Trail provides beautiful views of orchards covered in flowers.
For a completely different landscape, travelers can head east from the Central Valley into the Sierra Nevada mountains and explore Sequoia National Park. Here, in the Giant Forest, stands the General Sherman Tree, the world’s largest known living tree by trunk volume. This mountain destination requires a separate excursion, and access conditions can vary depending on the season.

Los Angeles
While the Santa Monica Pier is the town’s most popular Instagram destination, you are welcome to ride, bike, or cut over to the uninterrupted action at the Venice Beach Boardwalk as well. A few prominent locations like the Hollywood sign, the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, and the Griffith Observatory are also desirable (don’t miss the James Dean bust here!
Los Angeles also offers plenty of fashionable cafés, rooftop venues, and distinctive cultural attractions. The Broad contemporary art museum remains one of the city’s best-known destinations for modern and contemporary art. Another once-famous attraction, OUE Skyspace LA, offered spectacular views and an outdoor glass slide from the U.S. Bank Tower, but it permanently closed in 2020 and should no longer be considered a visitor attraction.

Temecula Valley is where you’ll find Southern California’s wine country, equipped with hot air balloons floating over vast vineyards. Drive to Big Bear Lake or Lake Arrowhead for the greatest sunsets; it’s well known that alpine lakes provide several of the most breathtaking shadows.

Orange County
Disneyland Park ranked as the world’s most popular Instagram destination in 2017, and sister park Disney California Adventure is a top 10 partner. You should also visit the coastal areas of the O.C., such as the Huntington City Beach and Pier, the International Surfing Museum, where you can see the largest surfboard ever recorded by Guinness World Records, and the lifeguard towers on Main Beach and Victoria Beach in Laguna Beach. The LAB Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa offers some hip, Instagram-worthy environs for food and shopping.

San Diego
Visit Cabrillo National Monument for spectacular views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Balboa Park offers beautiful gardens, elaborate architecture, museums, and the famous San Diego Zoo. Chicano Park is another remarkable place to photograph colorful murals and explore the city’s cultural heritage.
Farther north, in Escondido, Queen Califia’s Magical Circle is a striking sculpture garden featuring the imaginative work of artist Niki de Saint Phalle. However, the garden has limited opening hours and may close during or after rainfall. Check the official visitor information from the City of Escondido before planning your visit.
Some of the most beloved locations in the area include Torrey Pines State Reserve and La Jolla Cove, while the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch offers a seasonal rainbow of blooms (March through early May).

Deserts
Witness a seasonal explosion of color when the desert wildflowers bloom (usually late February through March). At Mojave’s Kelso Dunes, take pictures of some of the continent’s highest dunes, or take a picture next to Historic Route 66.
The former Tramway Gas Station in Palm Springs is an outstanding example of Mid-Century Modern architecture. Built in 1965 and designed by Albert Frey and Robson C. Chambers, it now serves as the Palm Springs Visitor Center, famous for its dramatic wing-shaped roof.
The building stands near the beginning of Tramway Road, which leads to the Valley Station of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, several kilometres farther uphill. From there, the rotating cable cars ascend into the San Jacinto Mountains, offering remarkable views of the desert and surrounding landscapes.
Get some retro-cool photos at The Saguaro Palm Springs hotel and Ace Hotel & Swim Club, or go natural at Indian Canyons nature reserve and Moorten Botanical Garden. For those who yearn for the empty road, a visit to Salvation Mountain in the vicinity of the Salton Sea will put you in amazement and a series of pictures.
There are plenty of activities a person can do to enjoy in such a beautiful state as California.
